Robert "Bob" R. Cassidy, 88, a lifelong resident of Plainville,
passed away Thursday, March 25, 2010.He shared his life with Mary Isabel (Posadas) Cassidy and together
they celebrated 61 years of marriage.
Born in Plainville Nov. 30, 1921, he was the son of the late
Thomas and Hazel (Conlon) Cassidy.
Bob grew up in Plainville and graduated Plainville High School.
He then went on to attend Teacher's College (CCSU).
He entered into the Army earning the rank of Staff Sergeant while
serving during World War II in France, Belgium and England.
Following his time in the military, he came back to Plainville
beginning his career with the U.S. Postal Service.
Over the course of 40 years, he worked his way from a carrier to
Postmaster until his retirement Jan. 20, 1981.
He was also a member and past president of the Postmaster
Association of America.
He was involved in many organizations including executive director
of CT ASA, the chairman of the Executive Board and ASA
Commissioner of the Plainville Board;
Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus and Past Grand Knight and
started the Plainville Park and Recreational Department.
He was a member of the Softball Hall of Fame for Connecticut.
Bob loved the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame, his beloved Yankees
and enjoying family trips.Most importantly, he loved his family, especially his children,
grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were the lights of
his life and he loved every minute with them. During the holidays,
he would plan well in advance the logistics to make sure that all
family members could make it. From his favorite holiday of
St. Patrick’s Day, to any time where he gathered with his loved ones,
he would always say, “Family is the most important thing.”
No one lived truer to those words than him.
Bob will be missed by all those who knew him.
Besides his loving wife, he leaves his children, Kathleen Drozd
and her husband, Paul, of Plainville; Robert K. Cassidy and his wife,
Rebecca, of Bradenton, Fla.; Maureen Cassidy of Plainville;
Sarah Cassidy of Plainville; Colleen Snyder and her husband,
David, of Plainville; his grandchildren, Craig Drozd,
Matthew Cassidy, Amy Cassidy, Sarah Tessier and her husband,
Ken, David Snyder and his wife, Kristin; six great-grandchildren;
his brothers, Donald Cassidy and his wife, Lillian, of Plattsburgh,
N.Y., and Jack Cassidy and his wife, Marie, of Plainville; along with
several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings
Leo, William, Betty and Ann.
Funeral services will be celebrated Monday, March 29, 2010, at
10 a.m. from Bailey Funeral Home, 48 Broad St., Plainville, for a
Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Mercy Church,
Plainville. Burial with military honors will follow at St. Joseph
Cemetery, Plainville. Family and friends may gather Sunday,
March 28, 2010, from 3 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home.The Knights of Columbus will post Color Guards and hold their
