Local Youth are District Winners in Knights
of Columbus Free Throw Championship

A great group of talented youth turned out for fun and competition at the
2010 Knights of Columbus International Free Throw Championship which
was held on January 10th at Our Lady of Mercy Parish Center.
The K of C sponsors the program annually around the world to promote
youth and family activities. All boys and girls between the ages of 10 and 14
were invited to compete for some prizes and the chance to advance to
district, then perhaps regional and state contests.

 

Eight winners were named local champions and earned the right to compete
at the district level. Robert Munson was the 10 year old boys winner.
Jessica Masco was best among the 10 year old girls. Gina D'Amico won in the
11 year old girls group. Nick D’Amico won in the 12 year old boys group
and Victoria Carroll was the 12 year old girls champ. Sarah Thompson captured
the title for 13 year old girls. Abigail Negro was the girls 14 year old champ
accompanied by Shaun Carroll as best among 14 year old boys.

 

 

Runners-up were for the 10 year old boys Jason Franceschini;
Stephanie Martino for the 11 year old girls; Robert Pezzulo
for the 12 year old boys; Kelsey Clemens for the 13 year old girls;
and Carly Martino for the 14 year old girls.

Other contestants were 11 year old girls Emily Bienasz and
Storm Caswell, 13 year old boys Michael Munson and Julius Brown.

 

The local winners competed at the district level contest hosted by
the Plainville Knights Council on February 7th. The Plainville corps
competed against sharpshooters from Farmington/Unionville and Suffield.
Plainville youth named district champs were Robert Munson, Gina D’Amico,
Nick D’Amico, Victoria Carroll, Sarah Thompson and Abigail Negro. These district
champs advance to the regional competition to be held at St. Paul's
Catholic High School on March 6th.
